Guidance - Materials
Material character, care behavior, and current Brilinton material families.

The Principle

Brilinton materials are selected for presence, touch, structure, and long-term character. This guide explains the current material families used across MagWare, BandWare, and WatchWare.

Each material behaves differently. Some are chosen for softness, some for structure, some for visible texture, and some for the way they age with use.

Material Families

Material Character Used for
Veloute Soft, refined, delicate surface character. MagSkin and BandWare.
Mysora Warm, vivid, leather-built presence. MagSkin and BandWare.
Monture Structured, golden, expressive tone. MagSkin and BandWare.
Crocodile Deep grain, darker character, more formal expression. MagSkin and BandWare.
Ostrich Light, tactile, naturally marked surface. MagSkin and BandWare.
Ruska Brown, grounded, classic leather tone. MagSkin and BandWare.

Character

Veloute is selected for a softer visual language. It works best when the product needs to feel gentle, tactile, and refined without becoming loud.

  • Current color: Rose Jardin.
  • Best for softer leather expressions and warmer styling.
  • Avoid prolonged contact with moisture, heat, oils, or dark fabrics.

Character

Mysora carries a stronger color presence. It is more expressive than neutral leather and is used when the material itself should become part of the visual identity of the product.

  • Current color: Orange Sanguine.
  • Best for stronger color, warmer styling, and statement leather pieces.
  • Keep away from abrasive surfaces and avoid overexposure to direct sunlight.

Character

Monture is structured and visually warmer. It gives the product a more architectural leather expression, especially when paired with metalware.

  • Current color: Golden Ochre.
  • Best for structured leather expressions and warmer product compositions.
  • Natural marks and tonal variation are part of the material character.

Character

Crocodile has a deeper grain and a more formal presence. The texture gives the product a darker and more composed character, especially in black.

  • Current color: Obsidian Black.
  • Best for formal, dark, and high-contrast expressions.
  • Do not bend sharply across the grain and avoid heavy moisture exposure.

Character

Ostrich has a naturally marked surface with visible texture. It creates a lighter material expression while still keeping a strong sense of craft.

  • Current color: White Dune.
  • Best for lighter tones, tactile surfaces, and visible natural variation.
  • Protect from staining, color transfer, and prolonged contact with moisture.

Character

Ruska is a grounded brown leather expression. It is classic without feeling ordinary, and works especially well when the design needs warmth without strong color.

  • Current color: Chataigne Brown.
  • Best for brown leather styling, classic tones, and everyday use.
  • Natural leather may develop a subtle patina with use.

Moisture & Heat

Avoid prolonged exposure to water, high heat, steam, or direct sunlight. Leather can react to moisture and temperature changes over time.

Color Transfer

Light-colored leather should be kept away from dark denim, dyed fabrics, oils, and cosmetics. Color transfer may be difficult to remove.

Natural Variation

Grain, tone, and surface variation are part of natural leather. These differences should not be read as defects unless they affect the function of the product.
